Objective:To analyze the current situation of mobile phone dependency in undergraduate students of universities in Bengbu region, explore the correlation between social support and mobile phone dependency, and study the preliminary relationships between society, university, major, individual and the dependency. The results of above will provide guidance for the students to rationally use mobile phone.Method:Stratified cluster sampling was used to collect data from freshman, sophomore and junior students in three universities in Bengbu city.A customized questionnaire was designed to cover basic messages including the age,gender,major,hometown,cellphone-using behavior,often-used functions of the phone, motives and time allocations, etc. The mobile phone addiction index scale(invented by Prof.Louis Leung of The Chinese University of Hong Kong)was applied as the evaluation tool in the study to explore the mobile phone dependency of the students. The social support scale(compiled by Xiao Shuiyuan)was applied to investigate the social support situation of these undergraduate in this research.Result:1.In this study,1656 questionnaires were sent out,and 1647 questionnaires withdrawn.Excluding flawed ones, the effective rate of this study was 97.8%;2.The detective rate in this study showed that the mobile phone dependence in boys was higher than that in girls(P<0.01),the seniors was higher than junior student(P<0.01),the non-medical students was higher than medical college students(P<0.01).3.Comparing the single score and total score about mobile phone dependence, the factor of gender showed statistical differences for out of control factor, escape factor and withdrawal factor(P<0.01);The escape factor, efficiency factor and total score in students from family of non-only children was higher than the one child family(P<0.01);The mobile phone dependency showed a statistic difference in total scores, and the scores of out-of-control factor withdrawal factor were higher in high-grader than those in low-grader(P<0.01);The scores of total and single factor about mobile phone dependency were higher in students from non-medical colleges than those in medical colleges(P<0.01~P<0.05).4.The detective rate of mobile phone dependency increased with the time proportion of cellphone use for entertainment(Trend test,?2=23.60,P<0.01);The detective rate of mobile phone dependency in the group which the time proportion of cellphone use for reasonable daily need was between 50%~74%,was lower than that in groups with other proportion(P<0.01).When the overall scores of social support and objective support were between 0.05 and 0.01,they showed negative correlation with the detective rate of mobile phone dependency. In medical students, there was no statistic difference of grade point average(GPA)between mobile phone dependent group and non-dependent group.5.The grade, light burden of academic and the time proportion of cellphone use for entertainment were dominant factors of mobile phone dependency undergraduate students(P<0.01),while the objective support, high utilization of support andprompting note from peers were protective factors of mobile phone dependency(P<0.05).Conclusion:A certain degree of mobile phones dependency does exist among college students.Society, family and university should pay more attention to the mobile demand and schoolwork burden of college students.Education workers should make full use of education resources,to guide them to proper and efficient use mobile phones, and promote the development of students' physical and mental healthy.
