This article compares and analyzes the participatory population between People Fitness Center in the town of Chengyang(Qingdao, China) and Susan Wellness Center in the town of Murray(Kentucky, The United States). This study designed two questionnaires respectively in English and Chinese to the participants from both communities. The questionnaires cover five parts with twenty-seven questions, including the basic personal information of participants, purpose, forms and time of doing exercise, the facilities of community sports, the understanding of sports training etc. Interviews to some representatives and field trips were offered in this study. After I collected data and analyzed them based on above approaches, and provide a clear analysis and comparison of the participatory population in two communities from two different countries.According to the results, there are some differences in participatory population between two communities in the two countries. The participants in Murray community have clear purposes to join the community sports as well as strong desire to do exercise. Besides, ages of the participants are even distributed relatively, and the training methods are relatively scientific. While in contrast, the purposes for participants in Qingdao community to attend the sports are complicated relatively. There is no basic consensus or custom about doing exercise. Ages of exercised participants are concentrated in young people, while seniors and people with higher education participate community sports less relatively. Additionally, there is a severe lack of professional sports training in Chinese community that hinders the participants joining the community sports and doing exercise in a scientific way. However, there are still some similarities between the two different groups, such as the frequency of doing exercise, the demand for community sports training, the recognition to organizing the community sports, the participation of community sports, and so forth.Overall, the results implicate that the participatory population in China lack the basic knowledge of community sports as well as the national policies of sports promotion. While in contrast, the consciousness about community sports of participants in U.S.community has already rooted in people’s minds deeply; also, the operating system of community sports have formed a successful pattern.Through analyzing the data, I concluded a most possible and obvious reason why there are big differences in purposes of doing exercise, timing, season and the programs of sports, is that there is a big difference in sports facilities and infrastructure between the two countries. Especially in the community level, the facilities in U.S. community are more advanced and develop, which based on the needs of different individuals. This article uses the primary data collected directly by author, analyzes and concludes the shortcomings in Chinese community sports participation through comparison of a Chinese community and a U.S. community. It offers a valuable data support for the development of Chinese community sports and will benefit the extension of popular sports in China.
