The essence of education lies in promoting students’ overall development, which includes intellectual development and the healthy development in psychology and other aspects. These days, the prevalence of the new educational concepts, such as "happy education", "innovation education" and "appreciation education", indicates that the present education pays more attention to students’ needs and treats students as the main body of learning. And rewarding, for its inspiration and encouragement, has become a frequently-used means for teachers to teach students. Rewarding not only admits students’ individual difference, but also arouses students’ learning motivation and satisfies their psychological needs. That’s to say, rewarding plays an important role in guiding senior high school English teachers’ effective teaching. However, how to utilize rewarding to exert its functions is the question that deserves studying.Thus, for the purpose of exploring how to apply rewarding in senior high school English teaching, this thesis combines qualitative method and quantitative method, on the basis of constructivism, positive psychology theory and incentive theory of motivation, and takes five months to conduct a study on 90 students from Shenzhen Buji Senior High School. The study proves that the application of rewarding in senior high school English teaching does do well for students’ developments in both psychological and academic aspects. To be specific, after the application of rewarding, students are more motivated in having English class and learning English. As a result, their academic performances improve obviously. And this thesis is made up of five chapters, and they are as follows:Chapter one is the introduction and it consists of the background and the significance of the study. Chapter two is the literature review, which introduces the definition of rewarding, the studies on application strategies of rewarding and the theoretical base of rewarding. In chapter three, the methodology will be introduced, and it involves the research questions, subjects, research instruments and procedures. Chapter four is the results and discussion, which introduces the results of the tests and student interview, and the detailed discussion will also be stated. The last chapter is the conclusion, and it includes the major findings, limitations of the study and suggestions for the future study.
