Vocabulary takes on an important role in linguistic communication, as a unity of three language essential element--sound, form and meaning, vocabulary has been the basic content and main area of language studies. Vocabulary learning is the core of language learning and runs through the entire process of it. Without a certain amount of vocabulary, a person can not smoothly progress listening, speaking, reading or writing, which will directly affect a person’s language ability. According to the requirements of "English curriculum standards in compulsory education "(2011 edition), students at the end of sixth grade have to master about 600 to 700 words and 50 idiomatic expressions, and are able to simply use about 400 words to express topics which are defined as level. However, most of primary school students have not reached the requirements. Learning and memorizing vocabulary have become the largest obstacle in English studying for the primary school students. Applying appropriate learning strategies during the vocabulary studying process can improve the efficiency of vocabulary learning for primary school students. This study took the primary school students in Guiyang Nanming District as sample, investigated the presents situation of using vocabulary strategies, searched methods that can guide primary school students to use vocabulary strategies to effectively master the way to memorize and use English words. In this study, a questionnaire and research about the presents situation of using vocabulary strategies is conducted with randomly picked 200 primary school students among 3rd grade to 6th grade in one of the class one key primary school in Nanming district Guiyang.The whole paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter--the introduction, described the background of this study, the purpose and significance of the research, the research objects, contents and methods of the research and literature review. The second chapter described the theoretical basis related to learning strategies and concepts interpretation. The third chapter is the part of the investigation, by collecting and analyzing data, identified students’ problems appearing in vocabulary learning and memorizing. The fourth chapter is the attribution analysis to problems of students that appeared in vocabulary learning. The last, in the fifth chapter, from the perspective of both teaching and learning, some suggestion that can improve primary school students strategies level of English vocabulary learning and memorizing are given.
