Songs in English textbooks of primary school not only can stimulate students’ interest in learning, but also can effectively help students consolidate what they have learned and improve their comprehensive quality, which is an important part of the primary English curriculum and teaching resources. However, in primary school actual English classroom teaching, English songs in textbooks didn’t get the attention they deserve. which seriously wreck its value in teaching.To actually discover the problems existing in the primary English song teaching, basing on the relevant theories of English songs’ teaching, this paper will acquire related teaching information from multiple perspectives and further analyze acquired information. This study is carried by using literature survey, interviews, questionnaire, classroom observation and other research methods. The statistical data is collected in Excel. Through these survey and analysis, we have found the following problems existing in the primary English song teaching. English song seems to be completely missing, or at least grossly underemphasized. The teaching goals are not clear and key and difficult points are not prominent. Teachers can’t show the beauty of music, maintain beginners’ fresh feeling and fail to make the student obtain proper improvements. The reasons for these above problems mainly include as follow. The teachers didn’t have proper awareness in the value or the characteristic of English songs. English teachers lack of scientific teaching methods. Their music ability is restricted. The students’ knowledge base and experience isn’t enough. The teaching resources are limited and curriculum setting isn’t scientific. In order to solve the above problems, this paper will put forward the following improvement strategies. Firstly, we should exactly understand the value of primary English songs’ teaching and classify the songs in textbooks into three classes basing on their characteristic, focusing on enhancing knowledge capability, the emotional edification and cultural and education. Secondly, according to the characteristics of songs, teachers adopt different teaching types flexibly.(1) Teachers should fully combine body languages to promote teaching of knowledge capability.(2)Teachers should adopt situational experience to enhance teaching of emotional edification.(3) Teachers should introduce cultural background to improve cultural and education teaching. Thirdly, English teachers should promote their musical ability. Fourthly, it’s necessary to raise students’ interest and ability in learning English songs.(1)Intensify students’ interest in learning English songs basing on their relevant foundation.(2) Improve students’ ability of learning English songs through a variety of ways. Finally, integrate curriculum effectively, make full use of resources and optimize the curriculum.
