In recent years, the research about Internet collective action have been more and more popular, in which the participation of the individual Internet users, as the basis of the entire collective action have got more attention as well, scholars have researched it from social environment and group psychology factors. However, individual behavior is determined by its intrinsic personality traits and extrinsic environment together, it’s more essential to research those participation behaviors in perspective of personality. In the actual study, we also found that the behavior in Internet collective action is not entirely determined by the personality, but influenced by motivation and other factors in some degree.In view of this, this paper presented a study based on a personality-based framework, used the questionnaires, through the method of data analysis, try to know the influence of personality on participation behavior in Internet collective action.Through data analysis, we found that personality factors play a fundamental role in individual participation behavior, in the meanwhile, motivation and attitudes have a vary influence under different personality factors. High neuroticism individual’s behavior exhibited a tendency to follow, and greatly influenced by motivation, which made it exhibit instability. High extraversion personality individual’s behavior was the most active one with high initiative. High openness individual’s behavior had a tendency of leading, and was weakly influenced by attitude and motivation.Agreeableness personality factor had a reverse effect on one’s behavior, and high agreeableness individual exhibited the most negative performance in collective action,but the rational motivation could enhance one’s initiative on the behavior. Single conscientiousness personality factors had a weak relationship with participation behavior, but the behavior of people with this personality was strongly effected by their attitude, and their behavior tend to be more rational. In addition, we also found that rational motivation had strong effect on behavior, especially on those initiating behavior,on the contrary, emotional motivation had little effect on the participation behavior. This paper used a new framework based on personality to explain the participation behavior in Internet collective action, and found the effects of differences on personality factors.This study proved a feasibility that personality as the basis variables can explain or predict the behavior of Internet collective action, brought a new direction for this kind of research, and could provide data support for such study in the future.
