Running is deeply rooted in human nature. As one competitive, popular and attractive large-scale track and field sports events, Marathon has become well-accepted all through the world including China. Barefoot running initially got noticed by the world as professional Marathon runners tried barefoot running in international competition. Subsequently, as a new way to exercise and to compete in the match barefoot running gradually is recognized and respected by amateur runners. For constant introduction and recommendation from some influential celebrity runners, the bare-foot running group appears in China.In this paper, the history of barefoot running — a "fashionable and ancient" form of exercise and its main features were discussed from the perspective of sociology. And the existence and the current situation of bare-foot running group is investigated, analyzed and studied under the circumstance of developing society. Starting from analyzing barefoot running group’ questionnaires and interview cases, this thesis attempts to collect the characteristics of the participants, their training conditions and the relationship with the society. Finally, the paper briefly defines their social position and cultural value of physical exercise and proposes feasible strategy of the promoting and developing barefoot running group.Literature reviews, investigations, expert interviews, and mathematical analysis are employed, careful study is explored, and scientific proofs are collected before reaching the following conclusions:1. Barefoot running’s emergence and promotion, is inseparable from the growth and development of international and domestic Marathon matches. This sports form features with elegant pursuit, novel form, simplified participation, and controversial behavior.2. With the improved living standards, and the ongoing recreational sports activities, are fundamental for the emergence and development of bare-foot running group.3. The stable development of barefoot running groups is based on more related theoretical and empirical studies, and grasping it’s morphological characteristics of the physical culture, realizing it’s social position, and designing adaptable plans for it’s training and promotion.
