Junior high school English writing ability is one of the most important abilities and requirements in learning English. The English Curriculum Standards state clearly the requirements for listening, speaking, reading and writing. With more emphasis on communicative competence, English teaching pays more attention to develop students’ability to listen and speak in junior middle school, while neglects students’writing ability. Consequently, students neither do well nor show great interest in writing. Therefore, how to improve students’ writing ability has long been studied English by teachers in junior middle school.Based on language input and output theory, this study intends to explore how to improve students’writing ability effectively by integrating reading with writing. What’s more important is that the students may internalize and use what they have read in their follow-up writing, thus transfering their input into output. The purpose of this study is to explore two problems:one is whether it can improve students’ English writing ability through reading. Second is whether it can both improve the junior middle school students’attitude and interest in English writing and improve English writing ability at the same time through reading? The experimental research was conducted and lasted for four months. The seventy-two subjects are chosen from Class Five and Class Six of Grade Two in Xilinhot No.1 Junior High School. Such instruments as the questionnaire and test were used in the study. The author use experimentation, investigation method and test method. The major findings are that students’ writing ability and their interest in English writing have been improved by using the teaching method of reading-based writing.
