Numerical musical notation recognition is a very important component of the compulsory education in our country. In this article, we defined the Ziffersystem recognition capability of the middle-school students and several key factors affecting this capability, designed a Middle-School Student Ziffersystem Recognition Assessment Questionnaire, systemically investigated the current status of Ziffersystem recognition capability among the middle-school students in Changsha and reached a few conclusions. We further identified several factors that may affect the numerical musical notation learning capabilities, and provide a few recommendations for the middle-school music instructors.There are 4 chapters in this paper. Chapter 1 brings up the central question and describes the importance of the research. Through extensive literature research, we defined the Ziffersystem recognition capability of the middle-school students and key factors affecting this capability. This chapter provides the theoretical foundation for our paper. Chapter 2 described in detail our Middle-School Student Ziffersystem Recognition Assessment Questionnaire and how we conducted the evaluation. In Chapter 3, we systemically and scientifically analyzed our data, and reached a few conclusions: 1.The overall Ziffersystem recognition capability among the middle-school students is not satisfactory. 2.Those receiving extracurricular music training showed better Ziffersystem recognition capability. 3. The music instructors do not emphasize on Ziffersystem recognition training. In Chapter 4, we provided a few recommendations for the music instructors, the parents and the middle school administration.
