From 2000 on, the nationwide syllabus reform has put forward the slogan of "Local Culture and Global Horizon" and the latest version of Full-time Compulsory Education Musical Course Standards (Trial Draft) and General High School Musical Course Standards (Trial) have both proposed that "musical courses shall incorporate as their key contents the traditional music of China's various ethnic groups and the excellent musical compositions that reflect China's contemporary social lives". NanYin, an opera popular in the south of Fujian Province, is an excellent musical cultural heritage of China and also a very precious resource for modern musical education. In Mar. 1990, Quanzhou's primary and secondary schools started a staged introduction of NanYin courses at the request of its Education Bureau and Culture Bureau. It is arousing public attention (especially the musical educationists and various schools in Quanzhou) how to integrate NanYin courses into ordinary musical courses in schools, how to better serve musical education and how to improve notation methods and teaching efficiency while preserving the traditional characteristics of NanYin to the maximum. In this article, a study is made on the posthumous manuscripts of Zhang Zaiwo (1916 - 2005, great master of NanYin), i.e. Collection of NinYin Notations - Two-wire Playing Method on the basis of the survey on the status quo of NanYin. It also analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of horizontally-written Gongchi (notes in traditional Chinese musical scale)Notation used in this playing method in comparison with the notation method that is being used in the teaching of NanYin now, and comes up with the conclusion that horizontally-written Gongchi Notation features authenticity, easy understandability, high efficiency and pragmatism due to its faithful reflection of traditions and improvement on teaching efficiency. It both inherits the rational essence of traditional Gongchi Notation but also satisfies educational and teaching rules and therefore is highly applicable for NanYin education in primary and secondary schools in Quuanzhou. The study is presented by observatiing, interviewing, literaturing and comparing.
