| As is known to all, English is the international language. English plays an important role in our work and life. With the development of science and technology, cooperation has strategic significance in the world. Most innovations are too difficult to achieve without the cooperation of a team because the ability of a person is limited. If a person wants to be successful in the 21 st century, he should learn how to cooperate with others effectively. As for senior high school students, writing with the method of cooperation is essential to meet the requirement of the society and the academic achievements.The thesis is the effect of cooperative learning on senior high school English writing. The experiment lasted 20 weeks, aiming at improving students’ academic achievements and helping students to be positive towards English writing by adopting the method of cooperative learning. Two natural classes were selected to participate in the research. They shared the same teaching material, and they were taught by the author. The subjects were the students who were studying in No.2 high school. The experimental group was the students who were studying in class five of grade three while the control group was the students who were studying in class six of grade three. The two classes had a pretest before the experiment to guarantee the validity of the research. The author took the final examination of the second semester of grade two in 2012-2013 school year of Qin Huangdao as pretest. After a semester’s experiment, the students in the both classes had a post-test. The author took the final examination of the first semester of grade three in 2013-2014 school year of Qin Huangdao as post-test. In the meanwhile, questionnaire, classroom observation and interview were also used in the research to know the effectiveness of cooperative learning in writing. Then, the data were collected and analyzed.The results showed that there were significant differences in academic achievements and students attitudes in writing between the experimental class and control class. The academic achievements of the experimental class were significantly higher than that of the control class, especially for better students. In a word, cooperative learning in writing can improve students’ academic achievements and can make students more positive in writing.The thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction to the whole thesis focusing on the background and significance of the study. The second chapter is the literature review about theoretical researches and empirical researches. The third chapter is a proposed mode of cooperative learning used in the study. The fourth chapter is the major part of this research, including the arrangement of the research, the specific steps and the actual fulfillment of the whole research. The fifth chapter is the detailed analysis and discussion on the basis of the data collected. The last chapter is a natural conclusion of the research, including the implications for English writing. |
