Education shoulders the future of the nation, and to cultivate a person in innovative spirit is a necessary request for human society in an era driven by knowledge, information and learning. Realization of this target demands a change to original teaching mode to rebuild a new teaching mode "students oriented and teacher instructed". The 9th grade students have to cope with entrance examination for high school, and at most times busy with examinations, they are in a passive learning state. It is of great significance to implement an exploratory learning method in mathematics class of the 9th grade, make changes in the old passive learning method, put students in a new learning atmosphere with active exploration, problem-solving orientation and innovative ability cultivation. In this learning pattern, practice ability and innovative spirit are fostered, students get practical experience and all the potentials are maximized which is the issue to address in the study.By literature research approach, the paper analyzes current situations of exploratory learning both domestically and overseas, distinguishes between exploratory learning and exploratory teaching, defines concept of mathematics exploratory learning. Accordingly, the study identifies problems in the exploratory mathematics learning of the 9th grade and establishes teaching strategies and measures via questionnaire approach, comparison approach and case analysis approach. As a result of questionnaires, comparative performance analysis between experimental class and matched class before and after practice, and feedbacks from mathematic teachers in high school, it is found that starting exploratory learning in the 9th grade not only help improve students learning efficiency and cultivate mathematics thinking, also promote acquisition of their innovative sense, even more generating profound significance to education and teaching method reforming. To conclude, exploratory learning in the 9th grade mathematics class outperforms traditional teaching mode distinctly.
