In recent years, English teaching has received a heated discussion. Grammar teaching plays an important role in English teaching and many linguists have done a lot of researches on it.As an important part of English teaching, grammar teaching has attracted much attention. However, many students choose to study grammar by remembering grammar rules mechanically, which results in low efficiency. So the author proposes that applying the iconicity theory to grammar teaching is a good choice. This approach focuses on the relationship between form and meaning of a sentence and helps studentsreduce theirmemory burden. Besides, the teaching approach not only helps the studentscomprehend the grammar well but also cultivates their capacity of applying grammar.In the thesis, the author wants to answer two questions about the effects of the application of iconicity and students’ attitudes towards the new teaching approach.Furthermore, the author chose two parallel classes, the experimental class and control class, as the subjects.And sheused five kinds of methodologies, questionnaire before experiment, questionnaire after experiment, pre-test, post-test and interview, to ensure that the theory could be carried out smoothly. Besides, the author used SPSS 17.0 to gather and analyze the data.From the results of the test, the author found that the students in the experimental class got a great achievement after three months, which guaranteed the research value of the experiment; for the results of questionnaire, the author found that most of the students accepted the new approach.And the students thought this kind of class wasattractive, which motivated them to study. Besides, they also believe that the new approach had a positive effect on their grammar learning; from the results of interview, the author found that the students enjoyed this kind of class pattern and liked to take part in the teaching activities. Therefore, the author believes that the theory of iconicity can be applied to English grammar teaching in senior high school.
