Vocabulary is the most fundamental element of English and it is the premise and foundation of developing other English skills. Therefore, English vocabulary teaching plays a decisive role in English teaching. However, nowadays English vocabulary teaching has some deficiencies in junior high school of China. Junior high school students study English vocabulary without enough effective methods. Perceptual learning style theory describes learners’ individual differences, which specifically means that learners utilize one or more senses to learn and keep knowledge. In recent years, China has always advocated the educational principles of teaching students according to their aptitude and student-oriented teaching, which has the same effects as the perceptual learning styles. Now perceptual learning styles have attracted more and more attention. However, numerous researchers apply the perceptual learning styles to English reading teaching and the research subjects are mainly university or vocational students. The research of applying the perceptual learning styles to English vocabulary teaching of junior high school has not received enough attention.The research focuses on the application of perceptual learning styles to English vocabulary teaching of junior high school, in order to help junior high school students strengthen their English autonomous learning ability and improve their ability to master English vocabulary. Therefore, an experiment is conducted in Zhonghai Junior High School in Baoding city, from which two classes of Grade 8 are chosen randomly. The research attempts to answer the following two questions:1. Can perceptual learning styles promote English autonomous learning ability of junior high school students?2. Can perceptual learning styles promote junior high school students’ ability to master English vocabulary?The research collects related data and information through questionnaires, tests, interview, and adopts SPSS17.0 to analyze these statistics in-depth. The results of the research can be drawn: After the instruction based on perceptual learning styles, the English autonomous learning ability of junior high school students has been enhanced obviously, and their ability to master English vocabulary has been promoted remarkably.The research confirms the effectiveness of the application of perceptual learning styles to English vocabulary teaching of junior high school, and succeeds in finding a practical and feasible approach to English vocabulary learning for junior high school students.
