With the growing popularity of flipped classroom in America, there is a new wave of education reform rising abroad and at home. This new teaching model also provides a reference for the education reform in China. According to New English Curriculum Standard(2011), it is necessary to combine information technology with modern English teaching, so as to improve students’ autonomous learning ability and learning motivation. As a new teaching model proposed in 21 st century, flipped classroom takes students’ autonomous learning ability and learning motivation into consideration and overturns traditional classroom by the application of modern information technology, which increase the teaching efficiency greatly.English writing is one of the most important parts of senior high school English teaching. However, English writing has always been the weak point of English teaching in senior high school. Aimed at the current situation of English writing where students lack writing interest and motivation, this research applies flipped classroom to English writing in senior high school, for the purpose of exploring an effective method to improve the current situation of English writing. Three research questions are explored in this paper:1. Can flipped classroom improve students’ English writing proficiency more effectively than traditional classroom?2. What effects does flipped classroom have on students’ English writing anxiety?3. What effects does flipped classroom have on students’ autonomous learning ability in English writing? The research was carried out in No.1 senior high school of Kazuo. Two parallel classes from grade two were selected as research subjects and each class had 50 students. They were taught by the same English teacher. In experimental class, flipped classroom teaching model was applied, while the traditional teaching model was still used in control class. The experiment lasted for one term. In the process of the experiment, pre-test,post-test, questionnaires, and an interview were conducted and the statistical software SPSS17.0 was applied for analyzing the relevant data.According to the results of the experiment, the researcher draws the conclusion that flipped classroom is more effective to improve students’ English writing proficiency than traditional classroom and it also has some positive effects on students’ English writing anxiety and autonomous learning ability. Although flipped classroom has been proved to have some positive effects on English writing, it also has some limitations in the process ofits application, especially its application in senior high school. Therefore, more efforts and investigations are needed for further research.
