Flipped classroom,also known as inverted classroom,has been developing rapidly in recent years.In flipped classroom teaching models,students complete learning tasks outside the classroom while interactions between the teacher and students,tackling teaching and learning problems,holding group discussions,knowledge using and application will be carried out inside the classroom.The features of flipped classroom have obviously manifested that the imparting of knowledge is fulfilled in class with the help of information technology and the internalization and absorption of knowledge is accomplished through co-operations between the teacher and students.While the real teaching and learning situations of English writing class of the present study subjects—English majors of B1401 in Shaanxi Institute of International Trade and Commerce confronted quite a lot of challenges faced with the calls of flipped classroom.Therefore,the present study focused on the following four objectives:to probe a feasible and appropriate flipped classroom teaching model for the current English writing class,to explore the learning functions of QQ and Wechat to stimulate students' learning interest and enthusiasm as well as to enrich students' learning forms of English writing class,to establish a solid and diversified evaluation organism by altering the single assessment form of English writing class,and to deepen the flipped classroom studies of English writing in vocational colleges.With these considerations,the study attempted to tackle the following three issues:1.What factors should the teacher emphasize when optimizing a flipped teaching design of English writing class?2.What should QQ and Wechat controllers do to manage and maintain the platforms when utilizing them to stimulate students' learning enthusiasm and initiative?3.What should teachers and students do when implementing immediate formative assessment in the process of English writing practice?The present study was implemented by selecting English majors of B1401 in Shaanxi Institute of International Trade and Commerce as its study subjects and questionnaires,interview,classroom observation,writing tests and flipped classroom teaching design as its study instruments.In addition,the final results were analyzed and discussed on the basis of quantitative and qualitative analyses.The thesis consisted of five chapters.In the first chapter,the background,purpose and significance of the study together with the structure of the thesis were presented briefly.In the second chapter,studies both at home and abroad from flipped classroom to flipped classroom in college teaching,then to teaching,learning,and evaluation modes of English writing based on flipped classroom were summarized concisely.Furthermore,the characteristics and theoretical basis of flipped classroom were illustrated as well.The third chapter was research methodology,where the instruments of questionnaires,interview,classroom observation,writing tests along with flipped classroom teaching design were elaborated.In chapter four,all the research results from questionnaires,interview,classroom observation,tests were collected carefully and analyzed deeply.The last chapter was the conclusion,which contained major findings,implications,limitations in addition to suggestions of the study.The study results demonstrated that flipped classroom was really beneficial to enhancing teaching,learning and evaluation proficiency for the current English writing class.Specifically speaking,in the aspect of teaching,many factors should be emphasized,such as preparations before class,arrangement of teaching procedures,management of class activities,inspiration of class interactions and feedback when optimizing a flipped classroom teaching design for an English class.In the aspect of learning,the platform controllers could sponsor some activities,for instance,English topic discussion,morning reading,speech contest,dubbing contest,writing contest when utilizing a learning platform to stimulate students' initiative and enthusiasm in English writing.Moreover,they could also share some useful learning resources such as videos,word information with pictures,websites,public numbers and so forth.Some awards could be used to propel the activities to go forward as well,such as delivering password red envelopes.In the aspect of evaluation,immediate formative assessment and feedback had achieved a prominent enhancement in promoting students' writing proficiency.In a sense,when implementing immediate formative assessment in the process of English writing practice,it was advantageous to set up a solid and diversified evaluation system to combine a diversified means of teacher's evaluation,peer's evaluation,self-evaluation,mass evaluation,selective evaluation and innominate evaluation on the basis of functioning learning platform's evaluation and combining in-class and out-of-class evaluation.The results of the present study enriched flipped classroom studies of Shaanxi Institute of International Trade and Commerce.On the other hand,it would be a reference for course reforms of English major in other vocational colleges.Admittedly,the present study also was confined to some limitations:the small sample,the short sampling time and the immature implementing conditions of flipped classroom,which were all the focuses of future studies.
