The information technology has changed not only the way of production, but also the life-style and interpersonal communication mode. Mobile phone dependence(MPD)comes with the intellectualization of cell phone and the combination to the Internet. The wide-spread of MPD leads that it is no longer only individual behavior, but a significant social phenomenon. The appearance of MPD is inevitable rather than occasional and the causes of it are not isolate but rather related. The urban youths always can accept the new science and technology fast. They show out more apparent group characteristics on MPD.The paper is mainly based on theory of sociology,social psychology and general psychology. The research method is combined with quantitative and qualitative analysis.Document research, questionnaire survey and individual interview are all used in the paper. The research object is urban youths. The definition is that the population who is from 18 to 24 years old living in urban(including the registered population and the unregistered population who flow into cities).According to the analysis of survey data, the paper introduces the status of urban youths’ MPD phenomenon from three aspects, the using time(length and frequency),purpose and situation. Then it reveals the effects which MPD brings to urban youths.It’s also investigated from three directions. Firstly, the influences include self-cognition,interpersonal cognition and social cognition from the view of group cognition.Secondly,from the view of group emotion, include positive emotion and negative emotion. Then,from the view of group behavior, the effects include interpersonal communication, study and work.By the conclusion of this research, the social psychology causes of urban youths’ MPD are anxiety, loneliness, conformity, subculture and interpersonal isolation. The study draws conclusions after comprehensive analysis of the correlation of each factor and the characteristics of urban youths. Urban youths of different genders show out significant variation in loneliness, conformity and interpersonal isolation. However, the variation is non-significant in anxiety and subculture.The social psychology mechanism is put forward based on the operation mode of each factor. At last, the paper proposes several intervention strategies to urban youths’ MPD from the view of society, user and the mobile phone itself.
