With the increasing popularity of the Internet and smart phones, the use of mobile phones by teenagers is becoming more and more common. As a tool for teenagers to understand the world, broaden their horizons, and entertain and relax, mobile phones have also brought negative effects on their study and life.Among them, mobile phone dependence has become the focus of researchers and the public.Based on the theory of self-worth orientation, this study investigated adolescents’ use of mobile phones, explored the influence of youth’s frequency of mobile phone use on mobile phone dependence, and analyzed the role of adolescents’ self-worth in the relationship between the two.In the first study,783 students from a middle school in Wuhan were selected as the research objects through a cross-sectional questionnaire survey to explore the relationship between the frequency of mobile phone use, mobile phone dependence and self-worth of adolescents. The results showed that(1)there was a significant correlation between the frequency of mobile phone use, mobile phone dependence and self-worth of adolescents;(2)Adolescents’ self-worth plays a moderating role in the relationship between frequency of mobile phone use and mobile phone dependence. In other words, the higher frequency of mobile phone use among adolescents with low self-worth,the more likely they are to become addicted to mobile phone. For teenagers with high self-worth,even if they use mobile phones regularly,it does not cause mobile phone dependence.Based on the results of the first study, the second study, from the perspective of longitudinal intervention, selected 30 subjects with low self-worth as the intervention objects, and further supported the moderating role of self-worth in the influence of mobile phone use frequency on mobile phone addiction through group counseling intervention,so as to further strengthen the internal validity of the study. The results showed that group counseling to enhance self-worth could significantly improve the level of self-worth of adolescents, and further weaken the effect of mobile phone use frequency on mobile phone dependence. The results of this study support the hypothesis of self-worth orientation theory, that is,whether the high frequency of mobile phone use causes mobile phone dependence depends on the individual’s self-worth,which provides a new perspective for the prevention and correction of adolescent mobile phone addiction or mobile phone dependence. At the same time, the intervention method of group psychological counseling in this study,on the one hand, supports the feasibility of suppressing mobile phone dependence by improving the level of self-worth of teenagers, and on the other hand, provides a new method for the intervention of mobile phone dependence of teenagers.Future research can combine different supporting resources of self-worth to study the problem of mobile phone dependence of adolescents in a more detailed way,so as to promote the healthy development of adolescents’ psychology and behavior.
