The traditional teaching method(teacher-centered) hardly satisfies the requirement of modern students and adapts to the development of the modern teaching.Consequently, the new teaching method(student-centered) has been created and has been attempted to apply to various practical teaching, such as interactive approach.Interactive approach based on the theory of Constructivism emphasizes the subject status of students in the classroom teaching. Its feature is to give students plenty of time in cooperative learning. What’s more, the application of interactive approach to English writing teaching in junior high school can embody the spirit of the New English Curriculum for Chinese Primary Schools and Junior Middle Schools.Therefore, this thesis attempts to research the interactive approach to English writing teaching in junior high school.This thesis explores two research questions:I. Can interactive approach relieve students’ writing anxiety?II. Will interactive approach improve students’ English writing achievements more effectively than the traditional writing approach?This research is conducted in the seventy-sixth middle school in Dalian. The participants are 68 students of eighth-graders from two parallel classes. One is the Control Class(CC), and the other is the Experimental Class(EC). CC students are taught by the traditional approach to teaching writing while EC students are taught by the interactive approach to learn English writing. The whole teaching experiment lasts one semester. The quantitative and qualitative research designs are used to confirm two findings of the research. First of all, the usage of pre-questionnaire,post-questionnaire and interview for EC students is to investigate the relief of students’ English writing anxiety. Then the pre-test paper and post-test paper are used to contrast and measure two classes’ English writing achievements in EC and CC.The result of the research is that the interactive approach has great influence on English writing teaching in junior high school. Most students prefer the interactive learning atmosphere to the traditional learning atmosphere. They reduce their writing anxiety and make rapid progress in English writing achievements. Therefore,interactive approach is conductive to guiding English writing teaching in the future as well as possessing great research value.
