As an important part of the P.E teaching in school, extra-curricular activities and sports competition are the extent and compliment of the P.E teaching, which is essential for the cultivation of students’ senses of lifelong learning of sports. However, the fact is quite different from that.4. There is little difference about students’ extra-curricular activities, which mainly are basketball, volleyball and football. 5.Most students spend money buying sports clothes and facilities. Of course, some students will spend money in training and the use of gym. Students’ attitudes towards consumption on sports are changing gradually. 6.In the universities in the north part of An Hui province, the forms of extra-curricular activities mostly focus on activities with partners, self-activities and club-activities, which shows a lack of organization in sports.7.The positive elements affecting students’ participation in extra-curricular activities are: P.E classes, activities organized by school and sports competitions; the negative elements are: heavy pressure of study, having no time, being not interested in extra-curricular activities, having no such atmosphere and a lack of organization and guide. 8. Universities in the north part of An Hui province hold the sports meeting every year, which is good for the performance of P.E teaching. Some other activities are also held in the universities. However, only a minority of students join in such activities. On the basis of the above, the thesis proposes the following strategies. 1. to improve the relevant rules on extra-curricular activities and sports competition 2.to combine sports competition with extra-curricular activities 3. to cultivate students’ senses of extra-curricular activities and sports competition, helping them form the right value of sports.4. to increase the investment in sports and expand gyms and sports facilities 5.
