Learning progressions are "descriptions of the successively more sophisticated ways of thinking about a topic that can follow one another as children learn about and investigate a topic over a broad span of time. Up to now, foreign science education research developed from theory to practical application; in China, many experts and scholars analysis and discuss the definition, composition, construction method of learning progressions in the context of Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Relatively speaking, the research and application in biology are still few. Therefore, this study choice the topic of "biological evolution theory" in 《life science)), constructing a learning progressions with 10 alternative conceptions, establishing a evaluation tools. By using this evaluation tool, teachers will know the degrees of students’ learning, and evaluate their levels of "biological evolution theory". These 44 students taken the test came from Shanghai MinHang middle school. Based on this data, carrying out teaching design and then practicing. After the test, taking a further analysis of how students’ understanding of the core concept developed in a period of time.It is shown that learning progressions is of great importance for teaching and studying in the biology classroom. Teachers can have a holistic understanding of the level of the students in learning a special topic, and effectively adjust the teaching and learning, and constantly optimize the teaching plan. This study discuss teachers’ teaching design and practicing on account of the test data, and analysis students’ vertical tracking learning Hopefully, this study can provide some help in the study of learning progressions. The study has the following recommendations for:1. Teaching design and practice based on learning progression should pay more attention to the students’learning process, not the result;2. Teachers should obtain the student’s information based on the evaluation results;3. Teachers should pay more attention to students’ expression and transmission.
