After entering the 21 st century,the world is under the background of globalization.And people in the world are communicating closer and closer. People of different cultural backgrounds are communicating increasingly. English as a common language in the world is more and more important and to be learned increasingly.The level of individual English communication is closely related to English education.Therefore, English education is not only about the education of language knowledge and skills, but the comprehensive education of cultural knowledge and application.At the same time,the college entrance examination reform has proposed new requirements to each stage of English teaching and learning,and to the direction of the study. Every school should make appropriate adjustments to deal with the traditional English teaching methods,to get rid of the shackles of exam-oriented education,to cultivate students’ learning interests, to improve their comprehensive language using ability.Elementary school as the starting point of English learning should make adjustment firstly, to explore a set of suitable teaching methods for students learning. This study is to research and discuss on primary school English cultural teaching from the perspective of students’ English cultural awareness cultivation status;to research and discuss achievements and existing problems of English cultural teaching.Then puts forward corresponding strategies, to enrich the elementary school English education theory, and to provide actionable suggestion to English teachers in primary school.This study based on the theory of intercultural communication, affective filter hypothesis theory, the theory of development assessment and the theory of constructivism teaching, regard grade 4 to 6 students,and the English teachers in primary school N as the research objects. Interview method, questionnaire survey and classroom observation method to be used to investigate the current situation of pupils cultural awareness from the concept and goal of cultural awareness cultivation, the content 、strategies and evaluation.Researcher found that English cultural awareness cultivation in primary school N has the following successful experience:Firstly,the advanced and internationalized concept and target promoted English culturalawareness cultivation;Secondly,a wide range of cultural awareness cultivation content enlarged students’ knowledge, expanded their horizons;Thirdly, the rich and colorful extracurricular activities provided students the chance of participation and real situation experiencing;Fourthly,multiple ways of evaluation played a role of guidance and supervision.At the same time,English cultural awareness cultivation in primary school N exists the following problems:Firstly,students have a little chance to study in the “English village”, and teachers in“English village” is limited;Secondly,the large scale students crowded in one class, not everyone be concerned;Thirdly,the limited English teaching time leads to English teachers have no time for cultural teaching;Fourthly,the materials involved in cross-cultural content is not enough;Fifthly,language knowledge and skills of evaluation are in a dominant position.On this basis, researcher analyzed the reasons that caused these problems from the education department, school, teachers, evaluation system, etc. Lastly, researcher puts forward the following effective teaching countermeasures and suggestion:Firstly,establish more "English village" teaching points, increase students’ experiencing opportunities of participating in the real situation of activities;Secondly,establish smaller class of English teaching, pay more attention to each student’s growth and development;Thirdly,increasing weekly activity class frequency and times that teachers have more time for cross cultural teaching;Fourthly,the materials should fully reflect the "standard" primary school English curriculum ideas, more cultural elements should be involved;Fifthly,deal with the relationship between language and culture properly, focused on the development evaluation for students’ excitation.
