The first tournament was held in 1953, and the championship is recently held every four years. It is one of the world women’s basketball major events, so the championship draws lots of people attention around the world like women’s basketball games in Olympic Games. Thus, the tournament is an important opportunity to know current skill levels of national basketball teams. In 2014, the national team of women’s basketball of United States of America won the seventeenth World Women’s Basketball Championship. In turn, it is difficult to change the team’s hegemony for others’ national women’s basketball teams. The women basketball team of Spain and the Australia’s team got the second place and the third place, respectively.China’s team got the sixth place in the championship, which is the best result in recent years. Women’s basketball is becoming more optimized because competitive level of basketball games is developing, and FIBA also pays special attention to women’s games. In turn, the design and application of technique and tactics in women’s basketball games is more diversified. In addition, the speed of transition between attack and defense is faster in current women’s games, and body-defense in the games is more intense. The defensive intensity and the players’ personal attacks are stronger in women’s games. Especially, the trend of women’s basketball games toward men’s games is becoming more obvious. Therefore, all the factors make women’s games more entertaining. Meanwhile, statistical analysis of data for each game will be more meaningful for future development of teams.The fast development of women’s basketball makes technical statistical analysis after each game more important. For men’s games, the data based on basic statistical analysis has not been able to meet requirements of analysis of team’s players and coaches for games. Therefore, researchers are looking for what kind of technical statistic data have impacts on outcomes of basketball games.Analyzing winning factors is useful for making appropriate training plans and applying specific technique and tactics. Recently, Dean Oliver(known as the God of basketball data) concluded thateffective field goal percentage, offensive rebounding percentage, turnovers per possession, and free throws attempted per field goal attempted are four most important statistical team factors to influence outcomes of basketball games based on his analysis using regression method for NBA games.Oliver named the four indexes as “the four factors”. Based on research outcomes, analyzing the four factors is able to conclude basic advantages and disadvantages of two teams in basketball games in order to predict the result of the games. In other words, the four factors are the keys of winning games. However, these studies only focus on men’s basketball game, and they do not pay any attention to women’s games.This paper is attempting to verify whether the four factors play important roles on winning women’s basketball games or not. In addition, the paper is also analyzing the relative importance of the four factors for winning women’s basketball games in order to make appropriate suggestions for improving the performance of China’s national women’s basketball team.The basic data is found from the seventeenth World Women’s Basketball Championship, and the paper verifies that the four factors also have significant impacts on winning women’s basketball games based on documents analysis, regression analysis, logical analysis, and mathematical statistical analysis. Moreover, the work also points out that effective field goal percentage is the most important factor for winning women’s basketball games, and free throws attempted per field goal attempted is the least significant one for the outcomes of the games based on the descriptive analysis, regression analysis, and correlation analysis. In turn, the just mentioned research outcome is also verified from comparative analysis of team performances of different paces in a game, winning teams and losing teams, teams of different levels, the games of the group stage, and the knockout stages. Finally, the paper makes several suggestions for improving China’s national women’s basketball team based on the advantages and disadvantages of the team from comparative analysis of performances between the China’s team and the opponents.
