The rational cloze that has begun to be used in the national college entrance exam since 2014 is the main errors of my students in our senior high school. That the competence of vocabulary use, sentence Analysis, and Discourse Analysis are weak can account for the high error rate of the rational cloze. Therefore, through the research on the rational cloze, the reason for making mistake can be analyzed. The competence of vocabulary use has to be trained to complete the rational cloze in vocabulary teaching in final grade.The thesis is conducted to solve the problem of students’errors in the rational cloze to explore the practical, scientific, efficient vocabulary learning strategies, to improve the efficiency of vocabulary teaching in final grade and to improve the students’competence of vocabulary use and Discourse Analysis.After collection of data, documents and materials, the theory on the rational cloze, the features of the national college entrance exam and teaching requirements are clarified in the thesis. The research lasts 22 weeks. The classroom teaching experiment is formulated to adopt different vocabulary teaching methods for the control and experiment classes. Direct method of teaching is applied in the control class, where the teacher presents the words and instructs the Chinese meanings of the words. Method of vocabulary teaching based on Discourse Analysis strengthens the vocabulary use, that is, identifying the words in the text, lexical repetition in the rational cloze, associating the words with the related vocabulary morphological changes, as well as the vocabulary use in the specific discourse. The rational cloze tests are carried out in the first week, the eleventh week and the last week and quantitative and qualitative analyses of the test results are conducted. Accordingly, the vocabulary teaching ideas and methods are improved and applied to the practice of teaching to confirm the changes of students’competence of vocabulary use in the control and experiment classes by receiving pre-and post-tests of the different rational cloze. The experimental results bear out a significant effect. Not only did the scores be improved in the experimental class, but also fluency and accuracy of sentence writing are better than those of the control class.In the English vocabulary teaching of the final grade, the methods based on Discourse Analysis and the vocabulary use are beneficial to the students, which can strengthen the use of vocabulary in discourse, help students understand and master the vocabulary use in the context, improve the scores in the rational cloze and reflect purposiveness and directivity of the communication in language teaching.
