Statistics and probability have an important position in the mathematics curriculum of basic education, and complement with the traditional mathematical way of thinking to solve the problem. The core of Statistics teaching is to develop the statistical concepts of students. Both of full-time compulsory education mathematics curriculum standards issued in year 2001 and year 2011 stressed the importance of statistical teaching, setting "the statistical concept" as an important goal of the mathematics curriculum, and "concepts of mathematical analysis" as one of the ten core concepts of mathematics education.Combining with the domestic and foreign literatures, the thesis collects researches on the statistical thinking and forms of elementary statistical thinking, constructs the statistical thinking dimension based on Mooney M3 ST statistical thinking framework. The author combed the requirements of the curriculum standards about elementary statistics and the specific content arrangements in Sue version textbooks. And at the same time, the author investigates the exams of statistical content in recent years, including the terminal maths exam and elementary school entrance exams in Suqian city.Through questionnaires and interviews of students, we know the current situation of students’ level of statistical thinking. Combining problems and difficulties of students and teaching cases analysis, we reach the following conclusions:(1) The statistical thinking level of the fifth grade students is still at the specific level of Mooney statistical thinking framework; students already have a certain ability to collect and organize data, read graphs and charts, and calculate the average, but the ability of using data and the understanding of the statistical significance of data are still very poor;(2) The teachers’ attention on the statistics content teaching is not enough, they only lay emphasis on book knowledge and the exam questions; Their teaching is lack of practical operation, ignoring the practical application, can not fully reflecting the requirements of curriculum standards, not putting cultivating students’ statistical thinking ability as the goal of carrying out the teaching; The school is lack of measures on relevant data saving, so the students have no accurate reference when collecting data. Finally, according to the results of the research, this paper made pertinent recommendations for the statistical teaching, teachers should pay attention to their quality and the increased awareness of statistics through specific data and practice teaching, improving students’ understanding of the statistical knowledge. Teaching makes students experience the whole process of statistical activities, and it makes a certain role for students to experience the real situation and statistical thinking of data.
