This paper uses the literature method, video observation, mathematical statistics, comparative analysis, quantitative analysis as research methods. The research subject is the four Grand Slam events and hard ATP Tour Finals that the professional tennis player Novak Djokovic participated in from the year 2011 to 2014. The paper compares the technical and tactical characteristics between Novak Djokovic and his rivals from the horizontal perspective, and it explores the changes of Djokovic his own technical and tactical characteristics from the vertical perspective. Through the two aspects comparison, the author has some conclusions:1. Djokovic’s serve and return of serve occupied 52% of the total score, his stalemate stage were responsible for 48 %. According to the basic structure of competitive unit of the beat number, the competition between Djokovic and his rivals were most intense.2. When speaking to total score, Djokovic’s average score was 120 points, while his rivals were about 109 points, which is the first prerequisite that Djokovic could win.The author uses T test to examine the total score of Djokovic and his rivals, the result shows P<0.05, which means there is a significant difference between Djokovic and his rivals. Djokovic was significantly better than the opponents.3. Djokovic is good at fast flash shots and side spin with big angle in first serve stage; he is also skilled in strong topspin in the middle course. He has 65.2% in first serve and 66.4% scoring rate. His two scoring rate has been increased with times, ACE ball was higher than the rivals obviously and double faults were less than them correspondingly. The backhand shots that Djokovic used has been increased year by year and gradually up to the same level with his forehand strike.4. Djokovic mainly used forehand and backhand shot technology in the game, which lets his become more offensive than his rival and also lets the rival become difficult to build advantages. He still used forehand and backhand shot as main technology in the fourth shot and tried his best to control the game pace as soon as possible. Djokovic’s 45% scoring rate is much better his rival, and his break opportunities are more than doubled than the rival. However, the rate of break has no advantages compared to the rival. He should improve his ability on the key points5. The forehand and backhand technique accounted for 85.2% of all technical methods. His backhand technique is much stronger than his rivals. His ball return lines were selected to suppress the rivals’ ’ backhand, his both forehand and backhand are good at changing the line suddenly.6. When facing the rival who is good at bottom line defensive, Djokovic’s unforced errors and winning points were both higher than his rival. Winning points had more advantage when compared with the disadvantages that unforced errors taken. When his rival was a strong offensive player, he chooses more baseline defensive to let the game more stable. His net scoring rate was 59.2% averagely, which was 64.4% lower than the opponents. It shows his nets former technology is his shortcoming and it needs to be strengthened.7. When speaking to the characteristics that Djokovic used on course space, there were more than 90% rounds that Djokovic and the opponents were locked in bottom.Djokovic is better at suppressing his rival’s side shots and backhand shots. That way he can mobilize the opponent more frequently and control the game pace. After creating a large advantage, he would choose the frontcourt shots to suppress the rival and get more score.
