Study objective: the purpose of this study is to explore college students’ body image and self-esteem of the exercise behavior and social adaptation ability; college students different gender, grade and subject type, body mass index in body image, exercise behavior and self esteem difference and each variable between.Methods: This study mainly through the questionnaire, the 32 colleges of Southwestern University(Department).According to the text, of engineering and arts class of stratified, random sampling, get the needle under the six colleges, according to the counselor provides the list of students in reading, according to the grade number after again random sampling to determine by the investigation object; This study to obtain a total effective samples 634 copies(327 males and female 307), with an average age of 20.95M1.90 years, height is 168.15M10.68 cm, weight for 58.55M10.57kg; exploratory(EFA) and validation(CFA) factors are combined to construct the model structure by using SPSS17.0 and AMOS21.0 analysis software, to obtain the amount of body image and self-esteem table scores in each dimension using single factor analysis of variance was used for statistical processing.Research results: 1) In the analysis of gender differences in body image, college female students are more concerned about weight than boys. Boys in health evaluation, appearance evaluation, physical fitness evaluation, physical fitness and disease and other aspects of attention was significantly higher than girls; appearance adaptation does not exist gender differences. 2) College students in different grades of their body images focus on differences, Performance for the first year of college students pay more attention to health assessment and disease concern, Big two students pay more attention to their own physical fitness and physical fitness evaluation, Big three and big four students are more concerned about weight problems. 3) Different types of discipline the body image differences are significant, the performance for the students majoring in Arts and sports pay more attention to their overall body image, liberal arts students pay more attention to adapt to its appearance evaluation and appearance, science class students pay more attention to the physical adaptation and evaluation of physical fitness. 4) There are no gender and grade differences in college students’ family self-esteem, among them, the male students scored higher than girls in physical self-esteem, academic self-esteem and social self-esteem. 5) Freshman is more concerned about the physical self-esteem, four students are more concerned about their academic self-esteem, two students are more concerned about social self-esteem. 6) The overall art students a strong sense of self-esteem, Liberal arts students pay more attention to physical self-esteem and family self-esteem, science students pay more attention to physical self-esteem and social self-esteem. 7) Self esteem as the mediating factor of body image’s influence on sports participation, there is a significant positive impact on College Students’ Sports participation, cultivating college students’ healthy body image is helpful to the formation of students’ self esteem and more active participation in sports. 8) The exercise behavior of the normal body mass index group was higher than that of the overweight and obesity group; The family self-esteem and social self-esteem and weight concern of overweight and obesity group were higher than those of the normal weight group.Research conclusion: College Students’ body image and self-esteem have significant gender, grade and professional characteristics, and are influenced by college students’ body mass index(BMI); The physical image and self-esteem of college students have a great influence on the direct and indirect effects of their exercise behavior, the more positive the body image and self-esteem, the better the performance of sports behavior. Therefore, education departments in Colleges and universities should through the appropriate channels, especially the Internet and other modern media, teach students to establish correct body image, to avoid the wrong type of expectations, to enhance the self-esteem of college students, so as to cultivate their positive perception of the movement, the necessary physical and sports skills.
