In the domestic, examination is the identification of the level of knowledge, and the selection of talents is in the form of examination. Online marking system in Colleges and universities is a way of marking which is a combination of traditional marking process and emerging technology. This system combines digital image processing technology with computer network technology, its characteristics of high scoring fairness and impartiality of the examination, low test score error, convenient marking process monitoring, efficient marking speed, beneficial to the storage and management of papers,and so on, to bring significant changes in the field, thus have obtained the social widespread attention and the support. This system’s main fuction is according to the digital examination paper image storage location, identify and obtain the corresponding image information, extract the candidates information and their answers to the papers from the images of papers. In this paper, a comprehensive analysis of the existing online marking system has been carried out. Not only that, this paper focuses on the existing systems’ operation of the various abnormal conditions, and combined with the needs of users, puts forward a kind of online marking method for colleges and universities. This method is based on increasing the speed of scoring. It not only reduces the influence of subjective factors on the score of papers, but also makes the marking staff have more flexible space.This paper analyzes and compares the computer image processing technology which is related to the online marking system. A comparative systematic analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of various algorithms, such as detection algorithm, edge detection algorithm, the image matching algorithm was carried out. Examination of the tilt angle of the candidates papers using the combination of initial detection and depth detection method. Initial detection mainly deal with the images of examination papers with small tilt. Depth detection is mainly to deal with the images of the examination papers with serious deviation. In this method, the accuracy of tilt detection is considered as the primary goal, and the detection speed is also considered. In the process of test paper and standard test paper matching, the combination of rough matching and fine matching is adopted. In the rough matching process, the serious deviation of the papers will be reposition processing, to ensure the processing accuracy. In the process of objective item identification, determine the option position by detecting the edge of the options within the range of identification, and calculate the options area pixel value, so as to realize the identification of the answers to the objective questions. After the end of marking,the system will automatically summarize the results,and display performance details,so that timely feedback students’ learning and teachers’ teaching situation.
