Reading is an im portant approach fo r students to acquire knowledge from written language.For a long tim e, many teachers of Chinese languag e in prim ary schools have sensed the im portance of r eading,and in classroom teaching,they’ve placed the cultivation of students ’ reading ability as one of the k ey teaching points.However,the current situation is tha t the majority of the teac hers doesn’t regard the knowledge of the reading m aterials as a whole,but disperse these knowledge points and then pass on the knowle dge.However,the reading ability not only consists of language knowledge but also the reading comprehension ability and the ability to grasp the entire article. This r equires the teachers to categorize the scattered articles according to genres,t hen form a knowledge system,and select proper teaching m ethods according to dif ferent genres,so as to im prove students’ reading ability com prehensively.Based on this, guided by scientific theories,this study designs cases with strong feasibility,tries to use genre-based teaching approach for reference so as to improve the teaching efficiency.As a rising teaching approach initially orig inated from North Am erica and Australia, genre-based teaching app roach was m ainly applied in the reading and writing teaching of the Englis h subject,but its application in Chinese teaching was rare.Therefore,this study attem pts the new perspective of Chinese teaching and proposes its application in reading teaching in Chinese language course of prim ary school through the research m ethods of literature review,summary method and case study, etc. W ith the summary and analysis of genres in the twelve volum es of Chinese language textbooks of the six grades in primary schools, and taking the four frequently appeared genres, nam ely poetry, fairy tales, essays and narratives as th e example,the study aim s to help stude nts improve their analysis ability, comprehension ability and reading speed, etc. based on the acquisition of some knowledge on genres, and the establishment of genre awareness in reading process.This study falls into seven chapters:Chapter I is an introducti on.This section mainly elaborates on the background of this study,introduces the purpose,significance,content and creative points of this study from dif ferent angles,and m eanwhile interprets and de fines the related concepts in the study.Chapter II is about literature review.This section firs t introduces the sources,approaches and methods of the literature,then emphasizes on the analysis of the research results of genre-based teaching method in reading teaching both at home and abroad,making a full preparation for the later smooth study.Chapter III is the study’ s theoretical basis.This section expounds respectively from the aspects of genre theo ry,genre category, reading theory,etc., and interprets the connotations of reading teaching through Chinese language course standard.Chapter IV makes a summary of the features of the textbook Chinese Language published by Jiangsu Education Publishing House and currently used by Kunm ing City’s pupils,then counts up and analyses the genres in the twelve volum es of Chinese language textbooks of the six grad es in primary schools,and finds that the fours genres,namely,poetry,fair tales,essays and narratives are the majority.Chapter V is the genre characteristics.In poetry, fairy tales, essays an d four kinds of narrative genre characteristic s are su mmarized,and the characteris tics of teaching materials and the text analysis.Chapter VI deals with the case design.On the basis of form er chapters,this chapter introduces in details the main features of various genres,then in combination of theory and practice, describes how genre-based teaching approach is com bined with reading teaching;it puts forw ards the concrete measures that promotes the students’ reading ability and makes exemplifications.Chapter VII m akes a conclusion of th e study.This study can help teachers understand the teach ing materials;it specifies that dif ferent genres have dif ferent structures and expression effects,which can help the teachers understand the writer ’s intention of writing,thus guide the ways of learning,improve students’ reading ability and enrich their language accomplishments comprehensively.
