In high school English teaching, the proportion of reading comprehension accounts for bigger and bigger, while the traditional teaching in class is given priority to teacher’s unidirectional teaching mode, and the purpose of traditional teaching methods is the test, which teaching effect is not so good. Cooperation consciousness and ability is one of the qualities required for modern talents. In recent years,cooperative learning is a kind of teaching theory and strategy system,whose main form is group activities. As a new effective learning model,it has received more and more extensive attention of teachers and students and has been put into use, which is the trend of English teaching reform in middle school at present as well.The purpose of this paper is to discuss the following questions: 1.How to apply cooperative learning in English reading class in high school to train students’ reading skills? 2. What benefits can students obtain in terms of emotional attitude through cooperative learning? Through these two questions, the author will explore the application of cooperative learning in senior high school reading class and its influence on students’ English reading skills and emotional attitude, and aim to build a new and high effective teaching mode of high school English reading, which is as student-centered, so as to adapt to the requirements of the social development and the new curriculum standard.Questionnaires, interview and experiment method were applied in this study, which lasted for nearly four months. Two parallel classes in senior high school were selected as objects of empirical study in Guiyang No.2 Senior High School(Guiyang demonstration senior high school),which were randomly divided an experimental class and a comparative class. Cooperative learning teaching mode is applied in the experimental class, while conventional teaching mode in comparative class. Tests during the experiment, questionnaires and interview were carried out and data were collected. Then the data during the experiment were sorted,inducted, analyzed and discussed.The following conclusions can be drawn from this research:1.Students’ learning interests and learning motivation were promoted significantly in cooperative learning, and the reading ability of students was increased dramatically, which was beneficial to increase students’ reading performance. 2. The results of the questionnaires and interview showed that students could help each other, promote each other and improve together in the process of cooperative learning. Students learned to share, cultivated their cooperation consciousness and cooperation ability in the process of cooperative learning, and improved their ability of interpersonal communication as well.
