With the improvement of people’s living standard and the enhancement ofindustrial capacity, automobiles are now becoming more and more widespread.Automobiles have accelerated the pace of people’s life, whereas at the same time havebrought severe problems such as inconformity between urban development and thesurging number of vehicles, traffic congestion in urban areas, and the ongoingdeterioration of the atmosphere. This research project is aimed at presenting aproposal: To devise an Android-based vehicle-mounted multimedia and informationinteractive terminal, which can communicate with remote servers over the air andgather information on road conditions in cities and achieve information interaction soas to collect and issue information on road conditions in cities. The vehicle-mountedterminal not only achieves basic vehicle-mounted function, but also sets up aninformation interactive mechanism on road conditions, which enables users to make ajudgment of urban traffic conditions in advance. The main points are as follows:First of all, the paper makes a conclusion of the development of existingvehicle-mounted terminal at home and abroad, then makes a comparison amongmainstream operating systems, and also analyzes the merits and demerits of Androidas the vehicle-mounted system. Also, it elaborates on the adoptive key technologies inthe design and presents the basic design proposal of the system: the entire terminalemploys C/S as the framework, Android application program as the client side,Tomcat as the server side in order to work in accordance with the SQLite database. The system employs ARM Cortex A8S5PV210chip as the core processor, thedominant frequency of which can reach1GHz and is able to support the starting modeof Nand Flash and Nor Flash. The system sets up a development environment for theoverall design under Windows system and applies Eclipse as Android applicationdevelopment tools, as well as programs using Java language so as to make sure thebasic logic of the application program and UI interface layout. In addition, the serverside employs integrated development environment, the XAMPP, to carry outdevelopment. The Android vehicle-mounted terminal designs in the MVC mode, which meansdifferent modules collaborate with each other. It not only implements traditionalfunction of multimedia, address book and map display on the vehicle-mountedterminal, but also achieves interactive function between client side and server sideover the air. Music player, designed in view of Mediaplayer, can perform normally inthe state of occupying fewer system resources. The SQLite database can achieve theaccess to user’s address book. LBS-based positioning system has the function ofreal-time location, which will be displayed on the map. Users obtain route imageinformation at first, then send POST requests by HTTP protocol, and the data will betransferred to server side in JSON format. Send GET requests by HTTP protocol, thenwill obtain traffic POI (point of information) sent from the server side. At last, theinformation will be marked on the map interface in the OverlayItem format in order tomake it convenient for the users to call information. In the end, the author makes a test of Android vehicle-mounted terminal bysimulator and real machine so as to evaluate the performance and functions of theapplication. Test results show that the Android vehicle-mounted terminal canbasically live up to the expectations, whereas the application running stability anddata transmission speed have yet to be improved.
