When the computer network is widely used and the network size is rapid expansion, a variety of network applications continue being developing. However, the Internet is faced with serious challenges, such as, routing equipment bottleneck, QoS, management, security, mobile access and other issues, thus the needs of the next generation network are more urgent to compensate for defects in the existing network. Vector Network in this background came into being. It has the characters of multi-level subnet structure, the separation between transmission plane and control plane, edge and core networks jointly responsible for the management and control, easy integration with existing network and so on. And It provides a better solution in the mobility, address allocation and multi-path search. With the deepening study of Vector Network, how to manage it and make it more efficient and reliable become an urgent need to solve the problem. Many organizations are studying how to manage network. There formed two major network management models. They are CMIP based on OSI model and SNMP based on TCP/IP model. The SNMP has been the standard protocol. In the design of vector network management system, the paper analyzes the characteristics of network management architecture, combines with the characteristics of vector network, and puts forward a new management system--vector network management system. The main work is summarized as follows:(1)Based on the needs of the network topology management, we design the solution for network management based on managed object and data-mapping mechanism.(2)Based on the business requirements, we design the network management model and functional architecture.(3)Based on the design of communication protocols, we achieve the data communication and complete various functional modules. The approach based on managed object achieves the extension of the current three-tier network topology management model; It reduces the dependence on the specific system requirements by using data-mapping. Meanwhile, we amend the proxy’s functions based on the traditional management model. Using the database as the management media, it forms a asymmetric multiple manager and proxy architecture, which makes the Vector Network have the characteristic of hierarchical structure, filtering traffic, collecting topology, infinitely scalability.
