As the cornerstone of national economy, manufacturing is the main driving force topromote regional economic development.Analysis of manufacturing structure and spatialdistribution has caused great attention from scholars at home and abroad. Jiangsu is konwn asan economically strong province and the chief manufacturing center of China.Research onmanufacturing structure and spatial distribution in Jiangsu Province plays an important role inenhancing the competitiveness and realizing modernization.First of all, this paper introduce correlate theory of manufacturing, industrial structureand regional distribution. Secondly, the study analyzes the manufacturing output, laboremployment and ownership structure in Jiangsu province from2000to2010, and thenresearches the evolvement of manufacturing structure based on coefficient of alteration,shift-share method, specialization coefficient and similarity coefficient.Thirdly, thisdissertation empirically analyses the regional distribution of manufacturing by the economicsmodels.Furthermore, this article analyzes three major influencing factors of regionaldistribution, including factor endowments, economies of scale and the policy,and thenanalyses influencing factors by multiple linear regression.The findings show that the manufacturing structure is optimized. The regionaldistribution is skewed, and the industrial concentration ratio is higher in southern Jiangsu.Manufacturing industry transfer from Southern Jiangsu to Central and Northern Jiangsu is theneed of economic development. Factor endowments, economies of scale and the policy areimportant factors to spatial distribution.Finally, the paper forwards developing correspondingrecommendations and measures according to the above conclusions and the existent problemsfor development.
