The port itself is a huge system, which is also composed of numerous minor systems. The port container collection and distribution system, as in the role to link containertransportation in port, is one of these most important systems. Port container collection anddistribution system concludes highway transportation, railway transportation and waterwaytransportation, numbers of cargo transfer stations, and across mainland road networks. Thegoods gather and circulate between port and supplier in port transportation system in the formof container. The core issue for port container collection and distribution system is how toimprove its capacities, and how to optimize its resources allocation. This paper firstly discussed the theory of port container collection and distributionsystem. Beginning from the conception of port transportation network, this paper introducedand discussed three main transportation ways of the system: highway, railway and waterwaytransportation, as well as their advantages and disadvantages. Secondly, this paper used amore advanced traffic assignment theory: dynamic traffic assignment theory to analyze thedistribution stream of cargo. Paper introduced the classical mathematical programming modeland optimal control model, followed a dynamic traffic assignment model based on Logitmodel. Finally, paper took Guangzhou Port in the Pearl River Delta port clusters as exampleto analyze its hinterland and its collection and distribution systems: highway, waterways andrailway subsystem profile. According to the Guangzhou Port transportation network dynamictraffic assignment model paper used gray prediction method; and combination of threeexponential smoothing methods to predict Guangzhou Port container next five years ofthroughput forecast, so as to optimize Guangzhou Port collection and distribution systems. Inthe end, paper presented recommendations and related conclusions.
