Urbanization is an advisable approach for resource recycle and industrialstructure optimization. Furthermore, it is the best choice for boosting domesticdemand and narrowing the income gap between urban and rural areas. Accelerating ofthe process of urbanization effectively contributes to the development of theharmonious society and the stable growth of economy. The rural-urban migration isone of the key characteristics in Chinese urbanization. Due to the progress ofeconomy in China, it is the inevitable tendency that the rural populations migrate tothe urban areas and they turn to non-agricultural industries. With the progress ofChinese economic reform, especially the more tolerant policy of populationadministration in recent years, more and more labor-based rural populations have keptmigrating to urban areas to pursuit better jobs and living condition. The thesis is on the basis of the theoretical studies on the population migration athome and abroad as well as the motivation of famers to settle down in the urban areas. The paper analyses the procedure of urbanization in specific region and the factorsthat influence the motivation of famers to settle down in the urban areas. The authorresearches the strength of the rural population migration and the related factors ofurbanization influencing the strength. According to the theoretical basis andresearches in the thesis, the author proposes suggestions that the rural populationsmigrate to urban areas in a rational way. The main conclusions are summarized asfollows:(1)With the help of urbanization rate and the elastic index of urbanization, theauthor analyses the urbanization level of Ganzhou. The results indicate that theurbanization of Ganzhou develops rapidly in2000-2003. But from2004to2012, theurbanization comes into a stable stage of development. Nevertheless, from the elasticindex of urbanization, the progress of urbanization has slowed down in Ganzhou in2000to2004. But since2009, the procedure of urbanization in Ganzhou graduallydevelops quickly.(2)On the basis of the theoretical system construction, the author analyses406validquestionnaires with the aid of spss19.0software, employing the dualistic Logitregression analysis, the author analyses five variables involving personalcharacteristics, family characteristics, social relationships and work experiences, resident motivation and main concerns of the interviewees. The main focus is the influence of five variables on farmers’ motivation to settle in urban areas underdifferent preparatory condition. The statistics show the famers’ migration motivationto urban areas is strongly influenced by the educational qualifications, the majorincome, the child schooling or working in city under the contexts of the preparatorycondition., the proper way of send back the farmland and the proper way of send backthe house. The education qualifications and the major income correlate negatively. Tobe more specific, the higher education people get and the lower proportion of majorincome takes in agriculture, the stronger migration motivation famers will have.Whether famers’ children are schooling in city correlates whether their children areworking in the urban areas negatively. That is to say, those famers whose child areschooling or working in city are more willing to migrate to the urban.(3)In recent years, the scale, strength, proportion of rural population migrationincrease obviously after2009. The leading role of urbanization to rural migrationbecomes more obvious. According to the strength of population migration, the authorclassifies the strength of population migration of18rural towns in Ganzhou into fourtypes: weak migration type, synchronous migration type, strong migration type andadvanced migration type with the ArcGIS software. In addition, based on thecorrelation analysis, principal component analysis and regression analysis, the authorfinds that the strength of population migration is obviously influenced by industrialoutput, the output of the second and tertiary industries, the capita income of urbanresidents, the comprehensive output of agricultural machinery, the comprehensivelabor force in rural areas, the number of stuff work on agriculture, forestry, husbandryand fishery and the beds(4)At last, the author proposes the suggestion from the construction of a soundsecurity system and suitable rural land disposal system. The suggestion is aboutpromoting the reasonable migration of rural population to the urban areas.
