Study On Carriage Passenger Economic Haul Measurement Model Based On The Generalized Cost

The passenger transportation, as one of the transportation forms, has the commoncharacteristic of transportation activities-the strong substitutability. Therefore, all kinds oftransportation are competing for customers that highway, railway and aviation usually existsin the same transportation route. Although it can provide passengers with the variety of choice,it will impede the development of passenger transportation market in the long run and causethe waste of transport resources. Because of the unique technical and economic characteristicsof each transportation mode, the economic haul, to which the transportation distance is limitedwe can achieve high economic benefits in the transport process, is various for each mode. Atthe same time, the highway passenger transportation plays an important role in the passengertransportation system and achieved the most volume of passengers and passenger turnoverevery year in the market. Therefore, the study of the economic haul in the highway passengertransport is meaningful for improving the transportation economic system and directing thestandardization of highway passenger transportation market and even the entire passengertransportation market.This paper is focused on the passenger transport and referred to the theory of highwaytransportation economy of scale, size and distance, and the theory of. Combined with theanalysis of the average haul distance and economic haul of highway transport, and referred tothe traditional way of measuring transportation economic haul, we proposed the approach tostudy the economic haul of highway passenger transportation with generalized cost,demonstrated its theoretical and practical feasibility. Finally we built the highway passengertransportation economic haul measurement model based on generalized cost by analyzing thefactors, quantitative method, weight coefficient of parameters, etc. Also we solved it bymathematical method and verified it based on the Beijing-Shanghai passenger line.
