Research On Performance Of Focal Firm Of Alliance Portfolio

Alliance portfolio is the collection which focal firm owe two or more than twoalliances relationship. Alliance portfolio is constructed by the competitive andcooperative relationship between focal firm and its stakeholders which contain customers,suppliers and competitors. As the complexity of the business activities and competitive,the risk and challenge that single firm face is becoming more and more serious. The firmswant to get a good survival and development, which has been increasingly difficult bycompletely independently on its own strength. In this case, single firm tend to form analliance even alliance portfolio. More and more firms establish alliance portfolio, and thatalso causes academic interest on the research of it, networkstructure, operationmechanism and performance. Above all, the influence factors of focal firm performanceis the most important research issues in this field.Base on the perspective of alliance portfolio, this paper clarify the relationshipsbetween focal firm performance and network structure of alliance portfolio. First of all,this paper reviews the theory and related articles of alliance portfolio, which providesresearch references for following theoretical research. Secondly, theoretical frameworkfor alliance portfolio network’s structure with focal firm performance are built. Itproposes that the relationship between enterprise node characteristics, alliance linkcharacteristics and network structure with focal firm performance are positivecorrelation.Furthermore, empirical study on the influence of alliance portfolio’s structure to focalfirm performance are conducted. On research stock aspect, the result shows that influenceof resources diversity and amount on focal firm performance has a positive influence. Onrelationship breadth aspect, The relationship size and more indirect relation has a positiveeffect on focal firm performance. On relationship density aspect, the relationshipstrengthand Relationship Status is to the benefit of the focal firm performance. On structureintensity aspect,a layered network structure has a positive influence on focal firmperformance. However, high degree of opening can’t bring obvious performance.
