Research On The Development Of Tobacco Agriculture In Jiaohe City Of Jilin Province

China is the largest producer of tobacco leaf, it plays an important role in the nationaleconomy. Tobacco leaf is one of our main agricultural economic products, it has become animportant part of our modern agriculture and the foundation of tobacco industry. It is themainstay of the economy for most of the tobacco grower. The development of tobaccoagriculture can increase efficiency and reduce expense. The development of tobacco industryis the inevitable trend in China. JiaoHe is one of the major producing area of Red Sun-curedtobacco in JiLin province. The tobaccp agriculture in JiaoHe which is one of thecharacteristic industries in JiLin. In the1980s and1990s, JiaoHe tobacco is the main rawmaterials for some cigarette factories. Due to the shift in demand, JiaoHe tobacco onlyprovides raw material for mixed type tobacco, the tobacco industry in a downturn during thepast10years. In order to improve competitiveness, the development of tobacco industry isthe only viable option.By illustrating the tobacco agricultural development, history and production status, thepaper indicates advantages and disadvantages about JiaoHe’s tobacco industry. Advantages:abundant natural resources, technical advantages, high quality of tobacco leaf. Disadvantages:inefficiency, lack of motivation, tobacco grower’s low quality, loss of labor resources, smallscale, limited plot size. By analyzing the above advantages and disadvantages then putforward the relevant suggestions and countermeasures. Firstly, improving relevant policiesand enacting plenty of incentives; secondly providing training and improving the quality oftobacco growers; Thirdly, building well-qualified base and expending the planting scale;Fourthly, to develop new market and clients; Fifthly, more investment in infrastructuredevelopment and improving the safeguard clauses; Sixthly, to set up a managementinstitution.
