A Study Of The Divergence Of Chinese Trade Patterns In Services

To serve as the representative of the tertiary industry trade occupy an increasinglyimportant position in a country’s economic development, and gradually beyond the firstand secondary industries.This paper studies Chinese trade patterns in eleven servicescategories using the data of1982-2012from United Conference on Trade andDevelopment statistics (UNTACDstat Database). Although there are a number ofscholars have been studied trade in services as a whole, there are few scholars havestudied various types of trade in services. According to the proportion of different typesof services trade in the overall trade in services, this paper analyzed a range of servicesfrom development and changes in trade patterns.We find that net export capabilities of traditional labor-intensive services tend to bebelow the revealed symmetric comparative advantages, which shows negativepropensities, while there are positive propensities for divergence of trade patterns in theemerging knowledge-intensive services as a result of strategic export facilitation.Chinese trade patterns have been distorted from equilibrium. This may improve thedynamic comparative advantage in long-term, but at cost of low economic efficiency inshort-term.According to the changes of Chinese trade patterns in services，this paper takesinto account the possible departure from the status of the service trade patterns impactfactors, and establish a model to analysis on the relationship of Chineseinvestment-savings gap and the trade pattern divergencies in services and goods.Current the research on trade patterns divergence in services mostly focus on trade ingoods, there are few experts on trade in services expanded research, so this paper isimportant.We thought investment-savings gap has effect on the divergence of Chinese tradepatterns in services, and Empirical studies have shown that it does. Theinvestment-savings gap improve the divergence of Chinese trade patterns in services in short-term, which has negative long-term effect on the trade patterns in services. Second,the divergence of trade in goods has impacts on the divergence of trade in services.However, Trade in goods in China is much larger than the size of trade in services, tradein goods and therefore the impact on trade in services is more obvious. Meanwhile, wefound that the imbalance of China in domestic relationship from the inside out, ratherthan from the inside outward. We document that the inconsistencies of the short-run andlong-run effects bring additional challenges on the adjustment of Chinese trade patternsand the mode of economic development.
