In the late20th century, the main driver of economic growth in developedcountries had gradually shifted to services, and the level of development of the serviceindustry has become an important indicator of the modernization degree of a countryor region, but also reflects the degree of social civilization. Along with the rapiddevelopment of world service economy, the focus of international trade also shiftedfrom the traditional trade in goods trade to services trade. The fact that trade inservices with stronger international competitiveness of the country, tend to havehigher levels of domestic service industry. The current development of the importanttasks facing China’s domestic industrial structure upgrading, and through comparativeanalysis of the service sector of the BRIC countries which have similar system and thedevelopment status with China, looking at how to maintain and develop newcompetitiveness in the common development process with other countries, thuscontributing to domestic service industry development, industrial structure adjustmentis the main problem of this study.Firstly, the related concepts of trade in services were defined,and the theoreticalfoundation were summarized on International Competitiveness of trade in services,and then the paper introduced a measure of competition in trade in services indexsystem, this paper used the international market share (MS), trade competitive index(TC) and revealed comparative advantage index (RCA). Then from two perspectivesof BRICS development situation and import and export trade services structure, wecomparative analysis the status of the development of trade in services, so that wehave a macro-level understanding.Next,this paper based on the collection and collation of large amounts of data,respectively used MS, TC and RCA index to compare and analyze the overall leveland sector-specific of trade in services BRIC countries. The results showed that:China have the highest market share of international trade in services, but not competitive; trade in services in India is the most competitive among the fivecountries; Russia and Brazil have relatively slow development of trade in services;South Africa owed the lowest market share of international trade in services, butstronger than the overall competitiveness of Russia and Brazil. India’s informationindustry, Brazil royalties and license fees, personal service in Russia and South Africatour, all have begun to take advantage, showing a diverse complementary. Finally thispaper concludes experience and lessons of BRICS trade in services in thedevelopment process, and put forward the corresponding policy recommendationsdeveloping China’s service trade.
