This dissertation paper is focused on the study of the theory of credit, credit risk and credit riskmanagement in banks in general and in Vietnamese banks in particular. It also analyses the statusand practice of credit risk management in Vietnam commercial banks. Finally, it suggests possiblesolutions for the coming year, in terms of the microeconomic and macroeconomic credit riskmanagement methods. The content is structured as follows:1. A systematic synthesis of the theory of credit, credit risk and credit risk management, as itis widely accepted at the international level. This synthesis provides the basis for the studyof credit risk management in Vietnamese commercial banks.2. An analysis of the status of the credit risk and credit risk management in Vietnamesecommercial banks.3. Recommendations for a few credit risk management methods that could be used inVietnamese commercial banks to control risk and avoid loss for the banks for the nationaleconomy.4. Analysis of a few specific situations in which credit risk issues can be identified and creditrisk management methods can be implemented to solve the existing problems.This thesis has achieved a certain degree of success in the study of the management of creditrisk in Vietnam. However, the credit risks issues are becoming more and more complex anddiverse, which is why, in recent years, Vietnamese banks and national economy have sufferedgreat damage. Therefore, further research in the area of credit risk management remains a priorityand should be treated as an emergency. I truly hope this thesis will make a contribution to researchin the field of credit risk management in Vietnamese commercial banks in particular andVietnamese banking system in general.
