Research On The Spatial Structure And Evolutionary Mechanism Of The Chengdu Metropolitan Area

With the advancement of reform and open-up and the growth of marketeconomic system, there is a wide array of new types of urban structure of differentlevels and sizes successively occurring in China during its entering the new stage ofurban development; and there is new direction for the development of China’s modernurban system. Metropolitan area plays an significant role in the new urban structure, andits formation and development not only make the pattern and scale of urban arearecombine and transform, but also render the capital, industry and labor force form thenew circulation and pattern. Understanding the evolvement rule of metropolitan area isof certain significance for the sound and harmonious urban development.Starting from the trend of evolvement of the Chengdu metropolitan area against thebackground of the rapid development of China’s cities, this thesis adheres to theprinciples of the integration of theory and evidence, the dynamic and the static, thequalitative and the quantitative; and this thesis conducts a relatively systematictheoretical and empirical research on the pattern and the diversified formationmechanism. The main content includes:(1) it introduces the background, significance,structure and methods of this research;(2) it reviews the studies domestically andabroad, and specifies the logical relations between the relevant concepts;(3) it describesthe urban development and spatial features and evolvement of the metropolitan area inChengdu city, and chooses appropriate indicators to define the scope of the Chengdumetropolitan area;(4) it analyzes the suburbanization and the motivation in theChengdu metropolitan area, and illuminates the relations between the suburbanizationand the development of metropolitan area;(5) it conducts research on the dynamicmechanism of the development and the spatial and structural evolvement of theChengdu metropolitan area through the combination of the mathematical analysis andqualitative description;(6) it concludes the main argument of this thesis, notes thecurrent situation and the matters needing attention in the development of the Chengdumetropolitan area, and shows the areas this thesis can be improved.
