Since the1990s, with the degree of contact of global economic integration continuing to deepen, commodities, capital, technology and services and the others of the world is becoming increasingly close, in front of the increasingly fierce competition in international market, it is difficult to rely solely on their own strength to maintain their competiveness in the international market, so they have taken the approach of forming strategic alliances that is relatively flexible,it not only allows multinationals to realize the sharing of resources and complementary advantages in the world, but also provides them with a broader market.At the same time, with the advent of the knowledge economy, the importance of technology for the multinationals is being increasingly recognized. It is important source for multinationals to maintain its competitive advantage in a long time, so R&D activities of multinationals has become an important part in their strategy,The process of R&D internationalization is gradually speeding, therefore, R&D strategic alliance has become the core of the multinationals’strategic alliances.However, according to the survey, the multinationals’ R&D strategic alliance’s success rate is not high, it is because the construction process of the multinationals’ R&D strategic alliance is very complicated, the multinationals should not consider the preparatory work before its establishment, but also take its management in operation and evaluation into account. This process includes environmental analysis, select alliance partner, choose the governance structure, human resources integration, revenue allocation, trust management and evaluation. And every part of the process is important to the success of the alliance. This is because the alliance established jointly by two or more independent actors and operations, they have their own strategies goals, interests, culture, so often in conflict, The presence of these conflicts may lead the multinationals’ R&D alliances to break easily. So, what kind of strategy of the formation of the multinationals’R&D strategic alliances can be taken to improve the success rate of alliances has become a serious problem.To solve this problem, this article divides construction process of the multinationals’R&D strategic alliance into three stages, then analyses the problems that will appeal and the strategies of it according to the three stages, this paper is to analyze it according to the following framework:Chapter1background and implication of choosing this topic, researches at home and abroad, research methods, innovations and shortcomings.Chapter2is about the overview and theoretical basis of the multinationals’ R&D strategic alliance including concept definition of strategic alliances and multinational R&D, its features and the relevant theoretical basis.Chapter3divides the building process of the multinationals into three stages: forming stage, the operating stage and evaluation stage, and problems in each stage are analyzed. The forming stage includes environmental analysis and the choice of coalition partners, operating stage includes the governance structure, human resources integration, income distribution and trust management, and evaluation stage mainly refers to the alliance performance evaluation.Chapter4is case analysis is of TD-tech, analyze strategy that Huawei and Nokia Siemens build TD-tech and evaluate whether it is successful according to the three stages.Chapter5puts forward the strategies that the multinationals should take when building a R&D strategic alliance, based on the analysis in last chapter.Chapter6is the conclusion of this thesis.
