With the rapid development of science and technology, companies around the world recognize the importance of technology R&D. However, enterprises’ self-development will face more cost and risk. Enterprises can share the R&D cost and risk to improve R&D efficiency through cooperative R&D. With the development of supply chain management, cooperative R&D in supply chain becomes more and more popular, which provides a chance for enterprises to share resource and information, reduce the R&D cost and weak the R&D uncertainty. Therefore, the research on cooperative R&D in supply chain draws scholars’attention. Meanwhile, as a new cooperative R&D organization, the RJV (Research Joint Venture) is increasingly becoming a preferred cooperative R&D choice for enterprises. In this background, it becomes very necessary to study cooperative R&D in supply chain based on RJV.Firstly, this paper introduces the background and significance and gives the research approach and framework. Secondly, the paper introduces basic theory of cooperative R&D and research status home and abroad, establishes vertical cooperative R&D in supply chain model based on RJV without technology spillover, and proposes several common cost-sharing mechanism. Thirdly, this paper focuses on vertical cooperative R&D in supply chain with technology spillover. We extend Wang model to establish vertical cooperative R&D in supply chain model based on RJV with technology spillover, and obtain R&D equilibrium output, equilibrium price and profit to analyse the effect of technology spillover to RJV. Then, under the fixed proportional distribution mechanism, we study the effect of technology spillover to optimal scale and stability of RJV. And then, we propose some evaluation methods for partner selection to cope with possible moral hazard problem. Finally, we give some improvement suggestions and research prospects.
