Patent Trend Research Of China’s New Energy Vehicle Industry

With the further exacerbation of the energy crisis and environmental pollution, governmentsall over the world are now focusing on the research and development of NEV, especially sincethe financial crisis of2008, The NEV industry has become an irresistible trend. New energyvehicles(NEV) industry is a new technology which based on the shortage of traditional fossilenergy supply and environmental pollution, beside inherit some technologies from traditionalvehicle industry, it also has it’s own innovative technologies. In other word, the NEV industryhas its historical mission and reality significance.NEV technologies are high-tech and innovative industries, the competition between theOEMs are mainly technology competition, so many company will apply patent to protectthemselves, thus we can draw out their technology competition&roadmap by studying theirpatents. The purpose of this article is to point out the differences of OEMs and key componentsuppliers between international and domestic by searching and analysising their patents.It’s deemed in this dissertation that it is a challenge and an opportunity for New energyautomotive industry to our country. As for China, NEV technologies is challenge as well asopportunity, on one hand, we are lag behind in traditional automotive technologies, our domesticOEMs are weak in technologies, financial resources, and human resources, therefore the NEVindustry is a big challenge for us, on the other hand, NEV industry, especially pure electricvehicles offer us a big opportunity because it does not rely on traditional engine technology, andits simple structure, convenient operation etc, making China and the developed countries at thesame starting line. Compare to the developed countries, we have lower sunk cost advantages, aswell as urgent reality needs of energy security, therefore, the NEV industry is the major strategicopportunities for us. On the basis of patent analysis, we formulate developmentalcountermeasures for electric vehicle industry from the national, industry and enterprise levels,which can provides an important reference and decision support for the electric vehicle industryin China.
