Spatial Analysis Of Counties’ Economic Disparity In Fujian Province

Regional economic disparity refers to the non-equalization phenomenonof the overall level of economic development between different regions on percapita sense. The problem of regional economic disparity is difficult to avoidin the process of regional economic development, but if it becomes more andmore prominent, it will restrict to the overall economic prosperity and socialstability. This paper chooses the counties of Fujian province as researchobject, describes and interprets the problem of counties’ economic disparity inFujian province, and hopes that can be useful for the formation of regionalbalance development policies and the establishment of regional coordinationmechanism in Fujian province.In this paper, first uses the method of variation coefficient to analyze thetemporal characteristic of the counties’ economic disparity in Fujian Province,Finds that from1994to2007, the year of2003is the inflexion of counties’economic disparity, before2003, the disparity is divergent;2003to2005, thedisparity is fast convergent; after2005the speed of convergence is slow down.Then uses the method of spatial autocorrelation to research the spatialcharacteristic of the counties’ economic disparity in Fujian Province, the resultshows that: there is a significant agglomerative phenomenon in spatialdistribution of counties’ economic development, but the value of GlobalMoran’s I trends to reduction, it indicates that agglomerative phenomenontrends to weakened. Finally, this paper uses the method of spatialeconometrics to detect the causation of counties’ economic disparity in FujianProvince, the regression results show that: labor, capital accumulation,technological progress, government actions, industrial structure, infrastructure,and geographic factor all show a significant positive correlation to the counties’economic development in Fujian Province. In these factors, the regressioncoefficient of infrastructure and technological progress is biggest, it indicatesthat barriers of traffic and level of science and technology are the mostimportant reasons for the counties’ economic disparity in Fujian Province. Theregression coefficient of geographic factor is smallest, it indicates thatgeographic factor is no longer the largest barrier of counties’ economicdevelopment in Fujian Province, the impact is weakened.According to the regression results, combines with the actual situation ofeconomic development in Fujian Province, this paper presents a fewsuggestions as follows:1. enhance infrastructure construction;2. increase thepayout of science and technology in agricultural counties;3. optimize theindustrial structure;4. distribute the educational resources in reason.
