As a basic, guiding and service national industry, transportation is the basis andprecondition of the survival and development of human society. In recent years, withthe unprecedented strides of scientific technology and social economy, thetransportation processes developed synergistically from a simplified mode to adiversified mode. In June2012,‘the12th Five-Year Plan’ ComprehensiveTransportation System Plan indicated explicitly that accelerate the transformation oftransportation development mode, realize all transportation modes being transformedfrom scattered and individual development to integrated development and form aprimary comprehensive transportation system with the network facilities equippedwith complete links, the practical and advanced technology and equipment and a safeand efficient transportation service. The low-cost but high-efficient comprehensivetransportation system, constituted coordinately by five transportation modes, rail, road,air, water and pipeline is not only an inevitable trend of transportation developmentbut also relates the fundamental requirements of the whole situation of transportationdevelopment and promoting scientific transportation development.Comprehensive transportation system relates to an extremely complicatedatmosphere, which is a nonlinear dynamic complex giant system. The issue, theincreasing complexity of system, has demonstrated the limitations of the existingmanagement theory and methods. Hence it is necessary to study the issue ofcomprehensive transportation system in a whole new perspective. This paper, in theCAS theoretical perspective to study comprehensive transportation system, is a newprospective. Through applying comprehensively the CAS theory, governance theoryand comprehensive transportation theory, we can have an elaborate analysis of thecomplex adaptability of comprehensive transportation system, explore the operationmechanism of the complicated functions among the main parts in the system, proposehow to realize the overall optimization of all transportation modes leading to atransformation from competition to mutually beneficial cooperation among them andprovide theoretical and practical guidance on the comprehensive transportationsystem.The main research contents are as following.Chapter One. Introduction. Firstly, expounded the project background ofselecting the thesis topic, the research purpose and its significance. Secondly,illustrated research contents, thesis structure, research methods and summarization ofresearch status. In addition, expounded the thesis innovation.Chapter Two. Summarization of related theories and research status ofcomprehensive transportation. Initially, explained two supporting theories in this paper, CAS theory and governance theory. Meanwhile, summarized briefly theresearched based on the related theories. Secondly, focused summarized the relateddomestic and overseas researches about comprehensive transportation system.Chapter Three. Comprehensive transportation system analysis based on CAStheory. This chapter is divided into three parts. Firstly, expounded the basic conceptsof CAS theory manifests comprehensive transport system and complex adaptivecharacteristics of comprehensive transportation system indicates that comprehensivetransportation system is an open and adaptive complex giant system. Secondly,analyzed and researched multi-agent of comprehensive transportation systemcombining with CAS Theory. This section includes analysis of multi-agent conflict,multi-agent advantages and multi-agent coordination development. Moreover, frommotivations and demands of travelers, analyze reference index of travelers’ choicesfrom three transportation modes. Combining with artificial neural network algorithm,build model for the choice prediction of three main parts, serving as the core ofsimulation mode in Chapter Four.Chapter Four. Modeling and simulation of multi-agent coordination incomprehensive transportation system. This chapter consists four sections. First,introduction about the system simulation platform-swarm, simulated structure andoperation principle. Second, build multi-agent coordination model in comprehensivetransportation system, according to the following five steps, which are description ofthe basic problem, consumer subject and its attributes, criteria simulation,environmental simulation and the timetable respectively. Third, analysis of thesimulated program structure and result. Fourth, analysis and research ofcomprehensive transportation system multi-agent governance mode and multi-agentmechanism innovative paths.Chapter Five, Summary and Outlook. Summarize the main contents of research,propose deficiencies and direction of further research.
