In recent years, along with the reform of financial system, competition between commercial banks in China is becoming intensifying. Under the background of fierce competition, many banks began to draw lessons from foreign advanced management concepts and methods of commercial banks and more and more commercial banks came to realize the importance of performance evaluation. In this thesis, the development process of performance evaluation at home and abroad are summarized, and the widespread problems of commercial banks in China are also pointed out, for example, the evaluation index is single, the set of evaluation index is short term, the evaluation for departments and employees is imperfect and refining, the evaluation policy is changed and the use of the evaluating results is not flexible. The performance evaluation of commercial banks is a complex project including branches of commercial banks, bank outlets, the bank staff etc. and it has much work to do to construct the performance evaluation system of commercial bank. This thesis embarks from the basic branches of commercial banks and studies the performance evaluation of basic branches of commercial banks including branches, the head of branches, the director of sub-branches, customer managers, tellers and the lobby managers. There are many types of performance evaluation models, each of which has its advantages and disadvantages. The Key Performance Indicator method and the Balanced Score Card method are a combination of target management and quantitative management, through the method of decomposing the global target into targets of all levels(including the team goal and personal goal) they make sure that the lower targets will not deviate from organization strategic target, is a good way to measure the contribution of teams and the individuals, and is also a good direction of value evaluation and behavior. Considering problems existing in the performance evaluation of commercial Banks and the practical work of basic branches, this thesis uses the method of the Key Performance Indicator method and the Balanced Score Card method to evaluate the performance of the basic branches and gets the evaluating template. These templates are convenient to use, evaluating comprehensively, easy to quantify. If applied to practical work, they can promote staff progress and improve bank performance.
