With the changes in the competitive landscape and advancement in management thought within the scope of the global, complex equipment manufacturing enterprises are facing new opportunities and challenges. As the important method and means of improving enterprise system and business process level, enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises, implementation of business process optimization and lean production have been developed to its strategic goal of many companies. Connected with the procurement, distribution and production, and many other aspects of the enterprise supply chain, storage management activities are the important parts of enterprise supply chain management. Especially under the enterprise’s strategic objectives of implementation of lean production, a successful implementation business process optimization of storage management can ensure the supplies timely and accurately, and then meet the business needs of lean production, realize the value of storage management. In this paper, a method of business process optimization in storage management based on value analysis is proposed.Firstly, building a storage management value stream network of complex equipment manufacturing enterprises. Depending on the features of storage management in complex equipment manufacturing enterprises the equipment manufacturing industry and value chain model, the value and its creation process of storage management is clarified. And then, decomposing the value process with the theory of value. Thereby a value-based storage management value stream network is built.Secondly, applying the warehouse management business process optimization using ECRSI analysis method and value stream mapping technology. Under the goal of realizing the value of storage management, combining ECRSI analysis method in IE with value stream mapping technology, which is widely used in the production process optimization in order to apply lean management in storage management.Finally, the applicability of the method is verified by a case study. Optimizing the storage management business process of gear in Dalian branch diesel locomotive works with the method, which is proposed in this paper, and then analyzing and evaluating the optimization results using simulation software. The applicability of the method is verified.
