For a long time, there exist complete differences in agricultural production in Reclamation Area and Agricultural Area because of their different land systems, physic-geographical environments and socioeconomic conditions. It is generally believed that agricultural development in Reclamation Area is much better than that in Agricultural Area and the latter should learn from the former. Then, what are the differences between them? What are the advantages of Reclamation Area and what needs to be improved in Agricultural Area?Starting from the allocation patterns, this study aims to find out the reasons why the modern agricultural development level in Agricultural Area is lower than that in Reclamation Area. Based on the research results at home and abroad, this paper makes a comparative study on the allocation patterns in Reclamation Area and Agricultural Area in Hulin County. Then the author uses the relevant data of the allocation patterns to make comparisons among field scales, shapes, space distribution characteristics, directions and agricultural infrastructure distribution characteristics and analyze their advantages and disadvantages. The concrete conclusions are as follows:(1) Regional ScalesIn terms of cultivated land and Garden plots, Reclamation Area is in priority of paddy field while the paddy field area is the equal of the dryland area in Agricultural Area. The reclamation rates in both areas are 65.80%(Reclamation Area) and 57.44%(Agricultural Area), which suggests the exploitation and utilization strength in Reclamation Area is higher than that in Agricultural Area. The Garden plots in both areas have smaller proportions, which shows that the planting industry in Hulin County is mainly composed of field crops. When it comes to the agricultural infrastructure and facilities of farmland, the rural roads, canals, green house and aquatic operations, the proportions of them in Reclamation Area are respectively 12.7 times, 5.17 times and 9.47 times as much as in Agricultural Area, which shows Reclamation Area’s overwhelming advantage in the agricultural infrastructure and facilities of farmland. In terms of ecological land, the proportions of grassland, pond and lake in Reclamation Area are respectively 1.21 times, 1.09 times and 2.5 times as much as in Agricultural Area. However, the proportions of forest land, inland tidal flats, marsh and rivers in Agricultural Area are respectively 1.52 times, 1.26 times, 8.64 times and 1.85 times as much as in Reclamation Area. Ecological land areas in both Reclamation Area and Agricultural Area are 28.055% and 38.406%, from which we can see that the latter is 1.37 times as much as the former. And besides, the proportions of forest land and water area which do well in playing ecological functions in Agricultural Area are both higher than that in Reclamation Area. So no matter from the overall proportion of ecological land or from the main proportion of ecological land, Agricultural Area is superior to Reclamation Area. As to construction land, except for the hydraulic construction land, the others in Reclamation Area are less than that in Agricultural Area. The construction land in Reclamation Area includes the airport land which is used by agricultural airplanes. Though the airport land area is not large enough, it reflects the modern agricultural level in Reclamation Area. With regard to other lands, the bare land areas are the same in both Reclamation Area(0.044%) and Agricultural Area(0.045%). What’s more, there is 4.52 hectares of sandy land in Reclamation Area, the proportion of which is 0.001%.(2) Farming Area Scale ResearchThe rural residential area and pond area are almost the same in both Reclamation Area and Agricultural Area. The proportions of the paddy field area in Reclamation Area and Agricultural Area are 75.94% and 80.12%, the proportions of dryland area are 2.89% and 3.28%, and the reclamation rates are 78.83% and 83.4% respectively. The proportions of ditch and road areas in Reclamation Area are respectively 1.83 times and 4.1 times as high as in Agricultural Area, while the proportions of forest land area and grassland area in Agricultural Area are 1.93 times and 1.59 times as high as in Reclamation Area. Though the reclamation rate in Reclamation Area is lower than that in Agricultural Area, the ditch and road area in the former is much bigger than that in the latter, which suggests the agricultural infrastructure land arrangement in Reclamation Area is more reasonable than that in Agricultural Area. Seen from the spatial distribution characteristics, the cultivated land in both areas is given priority to paddy field, and the roads and ditches distribution in Reclamation Area is better in uniformity and connectivity. The forest land in Reclamation Area mainly distributes in the form of forest belt, while the forest land in Agricultural Area distributes intensively in the north. The grassland in Reclamation Area is given priority to large patches, and the patch shape is more regular, while the grassland patches in Agricultural Area is disperse and the patch shape is irregular. In terms of the distribution characteristics of the agricultural infrastructure, the density of ditch, road and forest in Reclamation Area are respectively 1.57 times, 2.2 times and 1.49 times than that in Agricultural Area.(3) Field ScaleIn terms of the field scale, the average field scale in Reclamation Area is 2450.93 m2, which is far greater than that in Agricultural Area(1560.19 m2). The amount of variation of field scale in Reclamation Area is far less than that in Agricultural Area. The number and proportion of the smallest field in Reclamation Area are smaller than that in Agricultural Area while the number and proportion of the largest field in Reclamation Area is larger than that in Agricultural Area. In addition, the field scales in Reclamation Area were mainly concentrated between 600 and 3900 m2, accounting for 84.30% of the total field, and the field scales in Agricultural Area were mainly concentrated between 300 m2 and 2400 m2, accounting for 85.68% of the total field. Thus it can be seen that the paddy field scales in Agricultural Area are generally small. With regard to field shape, it is neater in appearance in Agricultural Area, while the shape of the field is more regular in Reclamation Area. The field fractal dimensions in both areas are close to 1, which suggests the degree of human beings’ interference to the land is very large. When it comes to the field space features, land fragmentation problem is outstanding in Agricultural Area while the field concentration degree is high in Reclamation Area. In terms of the field direction, it is mainly concentrated in the 80-100° interval in Reclamation Area, accounting for 72.99%, while the field directions are mainly concentrated in the 60-80°, 80- 100°,100-120° intervals, accounting for 40.18%, 27.55% and 11.79% respectively. And so the field direction is more concentrated in Reclamation Area.
